Community Outreach Internship

The Austin Asian Community Health Initiative (AACHI) exists to partner with the local Asian community in Austin to enhance public health and well-being. We fulfill our mission through language-specific education, advocacy, and healthcare navigation services. 

AACHI is seeking a part-time intern to collaborate with the Community Outreach Manager.

Job Title: Community Outreach Intern

Job Type: Part-time, unpaid internship (4 – 8 hours per week)

Work Type: Remote (in-person hours are rarely required)

Location: Austin, TX

Job Duration: One semester (fall, spring, or summer; internship can be extended).

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Community Outreach Manager in a  variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Pitching and/or creating social media content
    • Pitching relevant events & articles to share with our communities
    • Interfacing with our online audiences
    • Updating our mental health directory
    • Pitching and/or creating newsletter content
    • Update website as necessary
  • Meet online with the Community Outreach Manager weekly to discuss tasks, projects, and work progress 
  • Participate in the annual Community Health Fair
  • Attend all-staff or Community Health Navigation Program meetings 1-2 times a month

Required Qualifications:

  • Residence in the Greater Austin area  
  • COVID-19 vaccinated

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with / interest in the liberal arts or social sciences (ie: english, anthropology, sociology, psychology, social work, ethnic studies, etc.), public health, communications, marketing, graphic design, or nonprofit work
  • Proficiency in Google Suite & Canva
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, shifting environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction
  • Experience collaborating with or serving Asian/Asian American communities 
  • Experience / enthusiasm in creating social media content & copywriting 
  • Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Accessibility 
  • Transportation to & from the AACHI office 

Mentorship & Professional Development: The ideal candidate will be eager to learn the different aspects of non-profit management. Any tasks outside of the intern’s job duties that the intern is interested in can be added to the intern’s scope of work. We are happy to provide letters of recommendation & provide guidance in a variety of professional areas.

*Though we unfortunately cannot provide payment at this time, the Community Outreach Manager can coordinate with your school/organization to provide course credit & volunteer hours upon request.*
