I’m Laurie Gamble (she/her/hers) and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I’m excited that you’ve chosen to add therapy to part of your self-care. Look at you taking care of yourself!!
I graduated from the Master of Social Work program at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), specializing in transformative culturally competent practice with diverse populations. I was raised by my Korean immigrant grandmother and Black grandfather in Killeen, Texas (just north of Austin). Growing up racially ambiguous, I struggled with racial identity development, especially in the midst of experiencing microagressions. This informs a lot of my therapeutic approach. I believe we have to approach healing through a holistic lens and view each person as a part of many systems including their family, community, culture, religion, society, and others. Intersectionality helps us understand that we are more than one “thing.” At all times we are carrying and accessing multiple parts of our identity that mix to form something beautifully complex– YOU!

Vanessa uses trauma-informed postmodern approaches to counseling with an emphasis on systems and relationships. Using a mix of strengths based, client-centered frameworks she focuses on creating a counseling space built on safety and authenticity while also taking into consideration social contexts. When coming to therapy you will be met with warmth, non-judgement, and open-mindedness. Often times sessions can go beyond traditional talk therapy since she uses her art background to introduce creative and expressive techniques like narrative and art therapy. She also pulls from a holistic view on mental wellness and brings somatic (the mind-body connection) practices into sessions. During treatment she favors externalizing the problem, practicing emotional regulation skills, body/breathwork, and stress reduction skills among other therapeutic techniques. She believes therapy can be a space to explore your identity and develop the relationships with those around you.

I firmly believe we do the best we can with the tools we have at the time. We start looking for alternatives when the tools seem to stop working or we’ve grown tired of the same unresolved outcome.
Working with me looks like a combo pack of compassion with a dose of challenger and a dash of directiveness. I aim to understand and learn what you hope for in your life. Growing is messy and painful at times. It sometimes makes the best of us not even want to do the work anymore. And that is OKAY- it’s natural to the process. I see my role as your therapist as a guide. To help you have the space to speak about your hopes & fears authentically and without judgment. Together, we’ll work to find solutions & direction to the concerns you face.

Much of my work in mental health has been working with clients who experience intergenerational trauma. My hope is to provide an inclusive and welcoming space for all, especially clients who face systemic discrimination and marginalization.
I take a client-centered and narrative-based approach, which to me means you are your own expert, and I am here to understand your humanness by actively listening, leaning into my natural curiosities, and reflecting feeling & meaning.
As someone who has been in therapy, I can understand the fear of being vulnerable and trusting someone with your mind and heart. It’s scary. However, my role is to support you in feeling safe and secure, in a space that prioritizes inclusivity, open-mindedness, and authenticity.

I love working with teens and adults with a strong moral compass who want to do the right thing but often struggle to make it happen. Many of my clients have done their best to manage their anxieties and simply got to a point where they just wanted someone to talk to someone about their frustrating experiences. They often find that talking it out with someone makes them feel lighter and clearer.

My mother is a Japanese immigrant and my father is a white American. I grew up in Japan and moved to America when I was 9 years old. Between living in Asia and America, I experienced the realities of belonging to a minority group in both countries. My experiences being bi-racial and bi-cultural led me to become passionate towards working with minority groups.

I believe my upbringing as a first generation Asian American raised in a small west Texas town provides me a unique cultural lens into how culture and ethnicity interact with all aspects of our lives including how we see ourselves, approach academics, employment, and relationships. I have 23 years of experience working with diverse ethnic populations. I enjoy working with graduate students, medical students, and working professionals who are experiencing self-doubt, grappling with self-confidence, and are experiencing anxiety or depression. I also enjoy supporting individuals who are struggling with life transitions, work/life balance, and personal satisfaction. I use a variety of theoretical approaches to meet clients where they are, including but not limited to client centered, cognitive behavioral, strength-based, compassion focused, and solution focused therapy. I have had great success helping high achievers, individuals with
tendencies toward perfectionism, and individuals from many walks of life live healthier, less anxious, and more fulfilling lives. If you feel that I can be of support to you, please feel free to reach out to me via email or phone. You can also find more information about me on Psychology
Today. I am in network with all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.

All people deserve to be loved and cared for. My goal is to provide a space where individuals can share comfortably and be heard. I hope to be someone who is not just there to listen or help with people’s problems but also to walk with them on their journeys. I believe that love is the foundation of care because it strengthens individuals and opens their hearts. Therefore, my goal is to provide loving care to my clients, to build relationships reinforced by trust and security that encourage and guide them.
I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin in Social Work and Clinical Social Work, respectively. My work experience includes being a school counselor and social worker in the Austin public school system, as well as being a therapist intern at Vida clinic. I am also a Certified Positive Discipline Therapist.
I am particularly interested in working with children, adolescents, and families. I believe that parenting is an important factor in child development and that having a stable parent-child relationship is vital to proper growth. I value hearing people’s stories and learning about their backgrounds because these things help me to gain a better understanding of them. My clients have often told me that they appreciate how I engage them with positivity and affirmation. I do this by utilizing person-centered and strength-based modalities such as expressive art, play, sand tray, in order to meet each person’s needs.
